A presentation of heretofore scattered information on the most significant groups of the southern Vietnamese highlands. The main focus of the Memorandum is on the culture, social and political organization, and religious beliefs and practices of the six largest groups. Section I attempts to define their common characteristics, experiences, and customs, and to generalize about their relations with the outside world. Section II contains more specific information on highland history, a discussion of several unique cultural phenomena, and detailed ethnographic data on the individual groups.
