Police Personnel Challenges After September 11: Anticipating Expanded Duties and a Changing Labor Pool
Many major police departments face ongoing challenges in recruiting and retaining police officers. Heightened concern about terrorist attacks has exacerbated this problem by increasing demands on local law enforcement agencies. One way to address this is to develop a force management plan that focuses on future demand for personnel and creative sources of supply. This study outlines key issues that a local police department should address in planning for future personnel needs.
