Since 2008, the Welcome Back Veterans Initiative has issued grants to academic medical institutions around the nation to create and implement programs and services designed to address the mental health needs of returning veterans and their families. RAND joined the WBV Initiative in 2010 in a performance monitoring role. This report describes the Initiative, the impact of programs, and lessons learned.
