The Department of Defense is increasingly focused on the possibility of great power war. To inform an analysis of the consequences of such a war, the author examined ten cases of great power conflict since 1853. This volume describes the findings that prewar predictions about conflict duration, intensity, parties to the conflict, and the post-war world have often been incorrect.
